Privacy Policy for Expense Tracker

The short version

• Everything you enter — expenses, sheets, categories, budgets, subscriptions — is stored only on your device, in the app's own local storage. It is never uploaded to a server we operate.
• The app has no user accounts, no sign-up, and no login.
• The app does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs of any kind. Nothing about your usage is sent to us or to any third party.
• The built-in "Ask Synaptix" money coach runs its AI processing entirely on your device, using Apple's on-device Foundation Models. Your questions and spending data are not sent to any external AI service.

Data we store, and where

All app data — expense sheets, individual expenses, categories, budgets, subscriptions, and app preferences — is stored locally on your device, using standard iOS local-storage mechanisms (the app's own sandboxed storage and UserDefaults). None of it is transmitted to any server, by us or anyone else, as part of normal use.

You can optionally export a portable backup file (a .stash file) of your data. That file is created and stored wherever you choose to save or share it (e.g. Files app, AirDrop, email) — entirely under your control. We never receive a copy of it.

Face ID / Touch ID

If you enable the optional app-lock feature, the app asks iOS to verify your identity using Face ID or Touch ID. This authentication is handled entirely by iOS itself — the app never receives, stores, or has access to any biometric data.

The on-device AI coach ("Ask Synaptix")

The in-app money coach answers questions about your spending using Apple's on-device Foundation Models framework (part of Apple Intelligence), which runs the AI model directly on your iPhone's hardware. Your questions and the spending context used to answer them are processed on-device and are not sent to us or to any external AI provider.

The app also contains a currently-inactive integration point for a separate, cloud-based AI backend. It is not enabled in this version of the app and does not run or receive any data. If that changes in a future update, this policy will be updated first, and the change will be reflected in that update's release notes.

What we don't do

• We don't collect your name, email, or any other personal identifier.
• We don't use cookies, device identifiers, or any tracking technology.
• We don't share, sell, or rent any data to third parties — because we don't have any of your data to begin with.
• We don't serve ads.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, of any age, since it doesn't collect information at all.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — for example, if a future version of the app adds an optional cloud-connected feature — the update will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date, and significant changes will be called out in that app version's release notes.
